We stock a range of primers designed to help you make this unseen but nevertheless vital area of maintenance as simple and efficient as possible. Care and attention in this area will maximise the performance of any topcoat and ultimately provide greater value for money in the longer term.
Primer is the most important layer applied to your vessel. Though the application of a primer increases the cost, it is essential since it ensures a proper adhesion of the paint to the surface. There are several types of primers including International Gelsheild 200 which is a high performance two-pack epoxy primer which helps protect against osmosis. You can use the general purpose yacht primer for use on wood, steel and alloy above the waterline. International Interprotect is a quick drying, high performance two-pack epoxy primer that offers protection from corrosion on all solid substrates. The most popular primer for use on grp, wood or even steel hulls, is Primocon. This provides an adequate barrier coat between unknown or incompatible antifoulings, ideal for covering isolated repairs to the hull, keel or rudder. We also supply UCP which is a clear primer for use on bare wood, this provides fantastic adhesion properties.
